Coops Day Celebration in Bulgaria

On the occasion of 6 July, the Bulgarian co-operative movement joined the global co-operative family and festively celebrated the 97th ICA International Day of Co-operatives and 25 United Nations International Co-operative Day. Consumer co-operatives in Bulgaria unite and represent 120,000 individual members, 6,000 employees, 690 co-operative societies & 31 co-operative unions with € 195 million annual turnover. With its economic activities, extending to different sectors of the economy, and its workforce, the Bulgarian consumer co-operative movement, as united by Central Cooperative Union (CCU), is proud of its significant contribution to the economic growth of the Bulgarian economy. Equally important is its being a responsible employer prioritizing sustainable job growth and decent work for all.

The day’s festivities were launched with fun and family games at the central Coop store in Sofia.  An article featured in the daily co-operative newspaper “Zemya” (Earth) reached the wider public and promoted this annual celebration of co-operatives, recognized by global institutional stakeholders such as the United Nations and ILO and reminded of the importance of our model of enterprise, which has been celebrated by the global co-operative movement since 1923.
